Who are we

History

ISAFF (Italiana Società Arredamenti Fratelli Fontanili) was born in 1958, and it is heading towards its 50 years of activity, developed mostly in community and school furniture, and playing ground equipment. Since the beginning ISAFF distinguished itself for the innovation and quality of its products; these features are guaranteed also by the internal Production.

Even today ISAFF produces the great part of its products in its Production Plant in Roncolo, thanks to the carpentry, woodcutting, painting and assembling areas.

ISAFF continuous development and new production opportunities led to the opening of a new Production Plan in 1989.

After a few years, Company’s Research and Development gave birth to “Green Line, game equipment for playing grounds made of wood, destined to children aging 0 to 6, and with the introduction of materials completely new for that time.

In 1995 started the collaboration with Reggio Children ( a world-known Institute which studies and defends children potentials www.reggiochildren.it ) for researching a new furniture line dedicated to childhood.
This collaboration, together with ZPZ Partners Architects Studios for the design, led to the development of Atelier3  line.

Thanks to Atelier3 ISAFF became known as a great innovative Company in a sector whom proposes were, and partially still are, only thought as simple supports and not as a teaching element; Reggio Children pedagogical theories state that Environment is a third educator, so able to give and to create impulses to all those living it.
In 2006 ISAFF entered into the Arkimedica group, receiving new impulse and new vitality, and therefore aiming to even higher goals.

MISSION

For a company such as ours, which creates environments and “tools” able to encourage and qualify the activities of a child it is important to take a stand.

We have to decide which side we are on: on the side of the adult or rather the idea an adult has of playing or of a child’s toy or on the side of children and their idea of playing.

We have chosen children and with them a difficult and very complex position, which obliges us to:

  • use research as our style of design;
  • observe and listen to children more and more;
  • propose forms and solutions to them that can be acted on, modified, broken down and recreated both in real-life situations and metaphorically;
  • collaborate very closely with educators and teachers.
